Joy on Skis – cross country or alpine!

The Siljan district is a little paradise in the winter months for both cross country and alpine skiers. Here are four locations, with far and wide views, offering skiing for the whole family.

Orsa Grönklitt, Orsa
Grönklitt is one of the surest ski resorts in Central Sweden with respect to snow supply, and is the biggest ski destination in the Siljan district, with some 10 lifts and 23 downhill slopes. The ski season often begins in the middle of November and continues long into April. There are 70 kilometres of well-prepared cross country ski tracks, spread over seven different distances, track lengths varying from 1.5 to 11 kilometres. Half of the nine kilometres long illuminated ski track is equipped with snow cannons; this means that the cross country season gets a flying start at the first signs of winter cold. In Grönklitt, also, you can learn about the mysterious art of correct ski waxing; the sports shop at the resort offers waxing courses during parts of the season.

Gesunda, Mora
The best skiing for the whole family is in Gesunda, only ten minutes by car from Mora. With our newly expanded snow cannon system you need have no worries about lack of snow. Here you have challenging runs with substantial vertical drops for the experienced skier as well as friendlier downhill runs for beginners and children. At the bottom of the hill there are also miles long cross country tracks winding through beautiful scenery.

Granberget, Leksand
Granberg hill is ideal for beginners and intermediate skiers – the whole family can have fun together on the slopes. Ski lifts are free for children; there is a ski shop with rentals, a ski school, cafeteria with warm shelter & a separate packed lunch room. Granberget also offers splendid well lit cross country tracks from the top of the slope.

Rättviksbacken
Rättvik’s ski slope lies almost in the centre of the town, close to shopping, restaurants, activities and entertainment, and with magnificent panoramic views over Lake Siljan. An attractive family friendly slope, ideal for beginners, it offers downhill slopes of varying degrees of difficulty. It is very well-suited to learn how to ski and snowboard. Also, starting from the top of the hill, there are several fine cross country tracks, from 1.4 to 17 kilometres long.
