Around Siljan there are all possibilities to experience a living cultural life and traditions. Art and handcraft, like music, are at home here. You notice this everywhere. Here you meet richly coloured folk costumes, Midsummer traditions, vigorous folk and fiddle music traditions, imaginative floral kurbits paintings and so much more.
Well worth a visit is Våmhus, where you can see skilled craftsmen at work making their famous baskets with slats of hand-split pine – in summer there is a basket making competition. In Våmhus, too, you can see the unique craft of making jewellery from human hair – brooches, necklaces, bracelets, an art kept alive here since the early 1800’s.
Music life is also one of this district’s contributions to Sweden’s cultural heritage. The magnificent Dalhalla arena, in little more than 10 years, has established an international reputation. Bingsjöstämman, Himlaspelet, Musik vid Siljan, are among many other much appreciated musical events.
